Chapel Hill High School is proud to announce that Madison Smith has been selected to represent our school in the prestigious Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) for the 2026 school year in the field of visual arts. This highly selective residential summer program recognizes gifted and talented high school students from across Georgia and provides advanced academic, cultural, and social enrichment opportunities.
Madison is eager to deepen her understanding of how to connect art with audiences during her time at GHP, with a strong interest in arts education, community outreach, and curation. She expressed her gratitude to her family and teachers for their support, whose encouragement has played a key role in her artistic growth and passion.
Please join us in congratulating Madison Smith on this outstanding achievement. We are confident she will represent Chapel Hill with excellence and continue to shine in the field of visual arts.

Voices That Inspire: CHHS Speech & Debate Students Qualify for Nationals
Chapel Hill High School is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of two Speech & Debate students who have qualified for the National Speech & Debate Association (NSDA) Nationals in Original Oratory.
Madison Gibson, a sophomore, qualified outright, while Gabrielle Coner, a junior, earned qualification as an alternate. Alternates are ranked based on elimination rounds, and we are excited to share that Gabrielle is currently next in line for qualification.
Original Oratory challenges students to write, memorize, and deliver a 10-minute persuasive speech, refining their work throughout the season based on judge feedback from local to regional competitions.
Madison’s speech, Sense and Dollars, explores the intersection of psychology and finance, examining the habits behind economic choices. Blending humor and candid reflection, her speech encourages audiences to rethink their decisions and invest in both their financial and mental well-being.
Gabrielle’s speech, Bound by Beauty, examines how beauty standards shape and constrain women across cultures and generations, while also highlighting how women are challenging and redefining these norms on their own terms.
These accomplishments reflect the dedication, critical thinking, and powerful voices of our students. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and look forward to cheering them on as they continue their journey.

Mrs. Godfrey shares, “For the past eleven years, I have lived by the philosophy that every student can learn—just not on the same day or in the same way. This mindset makes teaching more meaningful and helps each student succeed in their own way. When we don’t try to fit students into a mold, we give them the space to be who they are meant to be and to learn in ways that work best for them. This approach has allowed me to build strong relationships and support lasting success among my students.”
We are proud to celebrate Mrs. Godfrey and the impact she continues to make at Chapel Hill.
