Krystal Matichak

Hi! Welcome to the new school year! I am excited to be starting my 17th year in education teaching 11th Grade US History at Chapel Hill!
Over my career in education, I have taught 7-12th grade social science classes. I earned both my BA in Social Science Secondary Education and my MA in Curriculum and Instruction from Saint Xavier University, Chicago, IL. I earned my MA in Educational Leadership from Kennesaw State University. I have taught in Illinois, Kentucky, and Georgia.
I am a first generation American with Austrian and Yugoslavian roots. My grandparents were only allowed to attend school until 5th grade, so the value of education is deeply imbedded in me. I am a first generation college graduate as well. I am a proud Southside Chicago native and lived there the first 28 years of my life. I have really enjoyed living in Georgia the last ten years!
Outside of school, I am a wife and mother to two young children. I enjoy traveling, reading, running, yoga, gardening, and hiking. I have family that lives all over the world so I love to explore other cultures. I have been a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity since 2008 and have traveled the world (20+ countries) building homes with and for families in need! My travel experiences help me tremendously teach from a worldly perspective! I am excited to grow and learn with my students this year!
